Mary Major

With a career that spans more than 20 years, Mary Major has proven her versatility and ability to flow in many media environments. Currently President of Major Jack productions, Mary is also Creator and Executive Producer of  “Quiet on the Set”.  A national hour-long celebrity  interview series airing on TV One.  She has successfully written, produced, and directed several television specials that include, Turner Broadcast’s   “The Trumpet Awards”, Lifetime Television – “Intimate Portrait: Vanessa Williams” (producer); and BET – “The Q Factor,” a ½ hour special on the life of Quincy Jones (producer, director, writer).

At SI Communications Major produced, wrote, and directed a nationally syndicated one-hour television series with features such as: “Authors Between the Covers,” “Behind the Lens,” Crisis in Education,” “Gospel Explosion,” and “After the Laughter.”

Her role as a reporter for Lifestyles with Robin Leach includes interviews with notable personalities such as Lena Horne, Halle Berry, Michael Jordan, Angela Bassett, Johnnie Cochran, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jean Claude Van Damme.  Similarly, she was a reporter, anchor, and producer for Screen Scene, a BET celebrity news magazine show.  Additionally, she reported for nationally syndicated shows such as Ebony Jet Show Case, and the World Bodybuilding Championships on the ESPN Network.  Other positions include serving as a field anchor for Live in LA, KCAL TV; host for Up Front, (ACE award-winning women’s issues talk show); and a field reporter for the Final Four and WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio.  To her acclaim, the documentary, The Promised Comforter, which she created, wrote, produced and directed, won Honorable Mention for the 1998 Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.

A recurring role on The Practice (ABC) heads the list of acting roles where Major has been featured.  Others include The Birdcage, Kiss the Girls, NYPD Blue (ABC), The Tracey Ullman Show (HBO); The Monroes (NBC); Grace Under Fire (ABC); Dream On (HBO); Lady Boss (NBC); and Quicksand (USA Network) 

In addition to the above, Major is a weekly columnist for the Call and Post, and has written a syndicated national column, Life Lessons with Mary Major.

A native of Central Ohio, Major is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations/communications. She is a member of both AFTRA and SAG.

The devoted mother of a daughter, Truce, Mary and her husband Michael Jack, president and general manager of the NBC affiliate WRC-TV, reside in Cabin John, Md.
