Quiet on the Set is a one-on-one interview program with newsmakers of color, shot in an intimate studio setting in front of a University student audience. The show highlights the inspiring journey of the guest, while allowing the audience an exclusive seat to witness living history in action.

Below are some synopsis from past shows.
Blair Underwood

Actor, Director, producer Blair Underwood discusses his 2 decades of work and longevity in Hollywood.   Accompanied by his family, father, mother, wife and children, Blair reveals how he has been a mainstay in the business.  Underwood reflects back to childhood with touching stories told by his parents.  

He talks about getting his big break on “LA Law” and how that catapulted him into a new personal and professional existence.   And for the first time, his wife tells the story of their meeting and how she ‘really’ feels about his sexy persona. 

QOTS also takes a look at some of us lesser know projects and takes a forward leap into some of his most cherished upcoming work.

Regina King

Regina King has grown up in front of the camera.  From “227” to ‘Miss Congeniality”, Regina has made her mark.  QOTS surprises Regina with a phone call from her “227” co-star Marla Gibbs while we take a look at clips from the play ‘227’ that introduced the two.   We take a look at her career choices, hear the story of her big break onto the big screen with “Boyz in the Hood” and how she went from being cast as the ‘Hood “ girl to the queen of “Wife World”. 

As a step away from the business, Regina discusses her husband and beloved child.   She also talks about how her mother, Gloria, taught her the 7 P’s that she attributes to her success.  

King reveals why the role in “Ray” was her greatest challenge to date and her co-star from “Miss Congeniality”, Sandra Bullock breaks it down in a surprise phone call, that makes the star laugh, clap and cheer.

Levar Burton

Levar Burton discusses how his desire to become a priest turned him to acting.   QOTS remembers “Roots”, the legendary Alex Haley miniseries that changed television.  Burton discusses what it was like to be thrust into the limelight as a college student.  

He talks about the roles that have made him a mainstay with each generation.

“Roots” to  “Star Trek” to “Reading Rainbow”.  Levar reveals why and how each of those shows effected his career and changed his life. 

Burton also candidly discusses family life, his wife and his future as a director.

Anthony Anderson

Funny man Anthony Anderson has gotten serious.   Quiet on the Set takes a roller coast ride with Anderson who performs, dances, and cries.   Anderson talks about his real role model, his Mom, Doris, who surprised him with a call to the set.   Momma Doris, tells the childhood stories that help you to understand how Anthony became the character he is today. 

In a sudden change, when asked about his adopted father, Anthony is filled with tears as he tells the touching story of how his heart broke when his father died.

The next minute, he shows us his dancing skills with a split to the floor.   Anderson also talks about his recognition as a dramatic actor starring in the much talked about “Hustle and Flow” and director Martin Scorseece’s next film, “The Departed”.

Avery Brooks

Actor, director, writer, musician, teacher Avery Brooks reveals all his sides.  In a television first, Avery plays the piano and sings with his resonating baritone voice.  

Quiet on the Set discusses his artistic upbringing, where expression was imbedded in his everyday.  Avery talks about the turning points that put him on his path, from parents, teachers and a book he read by renowned director Gordon Parks.   Parks later surprised Brooks with a call to tell him how fond he is of him. 

Most people don’t know Brooks as a tenured professor at Rutgers University.  He shares his scholarly wisdom on the ‘why’ of life and his profession supported by letters and a tribute from students.

John Singleton

Acclaimed director John Singleton shares the stories of his childhood from a boy in the hood to becoming an Oscar nominee.  Singleton talks candidly about the pretension in the business, what has made his a success?

QOTS talks about his debut movie “Boyz in the Hood” and how Singleton has created breaks for some of the top actors in the business.  And in a rare show of excitement, John talks about being a Dad, and tells us little know secrets about his personal life. 

We also take a look at the move that has everyone talking, Singleton’s show of courage and faith, putting his own money up for Craig Brewers “Hustle and Flow”.   This is the many who reminds us not to talk about it but be about it.
